Rencontres Scientifiques de l'ENSEGID : Anne-Laure Argentin

Résumé de la présentation :

"Geomorphology at the interface: from visible forms to hidden processes"

Geomorphology is often approached through the observation of landforms and surface processes. However, landscapes emerge from the interaction of multiple systems that operate across disciplines and scales. In this presentation, I revisit a series of research experiences at the interface between geomorphology, ecology, sedimentology, and subsurface hydrology to explore how these interactions shape our understanding of landscape dynamics.

Through selected examples, I will show how biological activity redistributes geomorphic processes in space and time, how sedimentary records provide only partial and event-driven archives of these processes, and how subsurface water movement can control landscape evolution in ways that are not directly observable. These perspectives highlight the limits of surface-based interpretations and the need for integrative approaches.

Ultimately, this talk aims to reflect on geomorphology as a discipline that navigates between what can be directly observed, what is recorded, and what must be inferred, offering a broader view of how landscapes function.
